Rinjani‑Lombok MIDAS Management Agency was established by the Government of Nusa Tenggara Barat to govern, coordinate, and grow both the UNESCO Global Geopark and the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve across the Rinjani landscape — as one platform, not two parallel bureaucracies.

MIDAS — Multi International Designated Areas — is both the name of the Agency’s governing framework and a description of what makes Rinjani‑Lombok unique: a single landscape recognised twice by UNESCO, first as a Global Geopark in 2018 and again as a Biosphere Reserve, each carrying its own international reporting obligations and its own community of practice.

Rather than split this into two competing offices, the Government of NTB established one Agency, overseen directly by the Governor and coordinated through the Regional Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA), to hold both mandates under a single Board, a single financial vehicle, and a single set of flagship programmes. That structure is what lets MIDAS speak with one voice to national ministries, international donors, and local communities alike.
